Revisit Steppenwolf isn’t a tribute band. And it’s not singer John Kay’s version of the band. The bulk of its members played in Steppenwolf at some point in their careers, and its repertoire is full of the ’60 rock-band’s hits. That includes “Magic Carpet Ride,” “Pusher” and “Born to Be Wild,” an updated version of which the band recently re-recorded and released.
The band, (Goldy McJohn, Glen Bui, Mike Setzer, Mark Mayberry and Matt Eaves) have written some original tunes, which get thrown into the set from time to time, says Bui, who plays guitar in the band (he toured with Steppenwolf in the late 1970s). The band takes requests, he says, remembering a concert in Washington where someone yelled out to play Lynrd Skynryd hit “Free Bird.”
Local rock groups Keeney Brothers and Soul Intact open the show.
