"My Bloody Valentine 3D" Grade B: Jensen Ackles and Jaime King face a deadly killer in this three-dimensional horror film. The film returns to those entertaining, scary days of yesteryear.
There is no way to watch this nonstop string of brutal attacks without seeing the fun absurdity in the whole thing.
Toss in first-rate 3D, and the new DVD not only pays a proper homage to the 1981 original version but kicks it up about 1,000 notches.
The DVD includes both 3-D and 2-D versions.
"Valkyrie" Grade C-: Bryan Singer's approach is sterile, distant and clinical. It is not much better than a History Channel documentary except the actors Singer hired to do the re-enactments come at a higher price.
The real story of the attempt to kill Hitler is interesting fodder for a cable channel documentary. This version needed to have more of a human element. That would have made this a more engaging attempt.
"True Blood: The Complete First Season" Grade B+: The HBO series from Alan Ball ("Six Feet Under") looks at how residents in the fictional town of Bon Temps, La., try to deal with the new vamp in town. He's a 173-year-old blood drinker who takes a fancy to local waitress and mentalist Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin).
The mix of mystery and romance played out against a Louisiana background will send shivers up your spine and gives this effort lots of dramatic bite.
