It’s been a little over a year since second-unit filming of “Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens” started in Iceland and Abu Dhabi. The serious work started in May of 2014.
This is the first of three films planned in a third “Star Wars” trilogy. George Lucas had always talked about “Star Wars” being three trilogies but only got two made. Once he sold his company and the rights to “Star Wars” to Disney, plans started immediately to get another movie in the franchise made.
The task has fallen to J.J. Abrams, the man who did such a good job with the re-boot of the “Star Trek” franchise. His film takes place about 30 years after what unfolded in “Return of the Jedi.”
Joining cast members from the previous movies - Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker - are Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Andy Serkis, Oscar Isaac, Domhna, Gleeson and Max Von Sydow.
Never miss a local story.
