“The Maddy Report,” the TV, radio and online report created by The Maddy Institute in 2006 to engage, prepare and inspire the next generation of government leaders and civil servants, will begin airing on ABC30 starting 5 p.m. April 5.
The program will no longer be broadcast on ValleyPBS and KSEE24.
Mark Keppler, the Kenneth L. Maddy Professor of Public Affairs at Fresno State and executive director of the Maddy Institute, will continue to moderate the program. The Maddy Institute is based on the Fresno State campus.
“Our top priority has been, and will continue to be, to keep Valley residents informed of the important public policy issues that directly impact their lives. As a result, we are delighted to be joining ABC30’s Sunday public affairs lineup,” Keppler says.
The program will air at 5 p.m. Sundays on ABC30 when the local TV station is broadcasting NBA basketball. When there is no basketball, it will air at 10 a.m.
The final airing of “The Maddy Report” on KVPT was March 20. “Charlie Rose: The Week” will move to 7 p.m. Fridays on KVPT starting April 15.
The local public television station will counter the loss of “The Maddy Report” by adding four news and public affairs programs: “One on One with Maria Hinojosa,” “Asia Insight,” “Tavis Smiley” and “NHK Newsline.”
“Public Television is intended to reflect the communities it serves,” Phil Meyer, Valley PBS president and CEO, says. “We hope that these additions to our schedule give our viewers more opportunities to watch programs that are relevant to them.”
On “One on One,” Hinojosa interviews artists, writers. civic leaders and activists. The documentary series “Asia Insight” offers a look at what’s happening in Asia today. “One on One” will air 8:30 pm. Fridays starting April 3. “Asia Insight” will broadcast at 6:30 p.m. Sundays taking over the “Charlie Rose” slot.
“Tavis Smiley,” a Los Angeles-based talk and entertainment show, and “NHK Newsline” will air at 1 and 1:30 a.m. weekdays. “NHK” is a live news broadcast from Tokyo.
The final airing of “The Maddy Report” on KSEE24 will be Sunday, March 29.
