For Alicia Zeek and Zach Smith, it wasn’t the sonogram the couple was expecting. The baby – a girl who was born earlier this week – appeared perfectly normal.
It was a second image, a blurry smudge seen in the left side of sonogram, that gave them pause – and national attention. The Pennsylvania couple thinks the image is the face of a bearded Jesus.
The story went viral after the couple posted the sonogram to Facebook, asking others to chime in on what they saw. On Twitter, it’s being shared by national media outlets, morning radio shows, faith based networks and weird news blogs.
Not everyone sees Jesus, of course.
Never miss a local story.
Cue the “aging rock star” jokes.
The TV station WPMY, broke the story with an interview in which the couple said they were at first confused by the image.
But they did see the face. “To me, it’s Jesus,” Zeek said. “It looks like Jesus.”
The couple is not particularly religious, but the image was a comfort, given that Zeek had two children who had problem at birth. A daughter was born with two thumbs on one hand and her son was born with a cleft palate after a difficult delivery.
“However you want to propose it, I look at it as my blessing,” Smith said.
