The show must go on, organizers of “Broadway on Van Ness” say. The Sunday concert at the 1st Congregational Church (The Big Red Church) was supposed to be a presentation of Fresno Grand Opera, which made headlines this week for going bankrupt.
The church stepped in to cover the event financially, and everything’s a go.
“We will still be presenting Broadway on Van Ness on Sunday despite the developments thanks to the generosity of the Big Red Church,” says Paul Raheb, who will conduct the concert with a group of singers formerly known as the Fresno Grand Opera Chorus.
The concert is 5 p.m. at the church, 2131 N. Van Ness Ave. General admission tickets are $45, and reserved seating is $60.
The program features music from “West Side Story,” “Guys and Dolls,” “Sound of Music,” “Wicked,” “Miss Saigon,” “Funny Lady,” “The King and I,” “Les Misérables” and more.
The event, a fundraiser for the church, also includes a champagne reception and silent auction.
Tickets already purchased through the opera will be honored. To buy tickets, call 559-387-7129.
