The multi-act R&B and soul concert happens Friday, Feb. 10 at the Fresno’s Selland Arena. Tickets for the show are $37.50-$54.50 and available 10 a.m. Friday at the arena box office, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone 800-745-3000. The lineup includes The Moments, Deniece Williams, Heatwave, GQ, Force MD’s, Ready For The World, The Deele, The Impressions and Patti Drew as a and special guest artist.
The artists represent several generations of R&B, funk, soul and disco music.
The Moments formed as a vocal group in the 1970s and had a series of well-known singles including “Love on a Two-Way Street.” Williams is a Grammy winning singer-songwriter who did several duets with Johnny Mathis, though anyone who owned the “Footloose” soundtrack will know her from the song “Let’s Hear it for the Boy.” Heatwave and GQ both hit during the early 1980s disco craze.
Force MD’s predated the New Jack Swing era with songs like “Tender Love.” Ready For The World released its debut on MCA records in 1985 and had a hit with the song “Oh Sheila” and the Deele is best known for the 1983 hit “Body Talk.”
The Impressions started as a doo-wop group in the late 1950s and once included Curtis Mayfield. The band is in both the Rock and Roll and Vocal Group Hall of Fame. In 1968, Drew recorded and released “Workin’ on a Groovy Thing,” a song that later became a hit for the 5th Dimension.
The Valentine Super Love Jam has been happening in Fresno for more than a dozen years. The 2016 jam featured The Manhattans, the Chi-Lites and Fresno’s own Timmy T.
