Honkai: Star Rail Reveals Rin And Gilgamesh As Playable Characters In Upcoming Fate Collaboration

Honkai: Star Rail has revealed a second collaboration with the popular multimedia franchise, Fate. The collaboration, which previously included the characters Saber and Archer, as well as a roguelike game mode and story segment, will continue this summer, bringing two new characters to the HSR roster: Rin Tohsaka and Gilgamesh. The collaboration, titled Imagenae Holy Grail War, is likely to be a side story set in Planarcadia, the primary setting of the game's fourth version.

Fate Collaboration Release Date

Rin and Gilgamesh are arriving as playable characters in the HSR roster, with Rin being a 5-star Quantum-element Erudition character and Gilgamesh a 5-star Lightning-element Destruction character. Both characters will be available starting July 24th this year, meaning it's likely to release around two weeks after HSR's Version 4.4 and Himeko Nova.

Free-to-Claim Collaboration Characters

Players will be able to claim a free copy of either Gilgamesh or Archer from the release of the collaboration until the end of Version 4.6, giving players until around the middle of October this year to claim either character.

Speculating Rin & Gilgamesh's Roles

Given how these banners are likely to be long-term collaboration banners similar to those of Saber and Archer, we speculate that both Rin and Gilgamesh are characters that will stand as primary DPS units in their own teams.

Rin Tohsaka

Rin Tohsaka marks the second 5-star Quantum Erudition unit, and the seventh limited 5-star Erudition unit overall. We speculate that Rin will be the primary DPS of her own team, with sub-DPS capabilities to slot in a team alongside either The Herta of Himeko Nova. Her kit is likely to be an AoE-focused one, given the nature of the Erudition Path, and we expect that it may contain self-buff character traces that convert into teamwide buffs under the proper conditions, similarly to Anaxa and Mortenax Blade.

Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh is the first 5-star character with the Lightning Element and Destruction path, and the ninth limited Destruction unit overall. The Path of Destruction has had many varied unit kits, from Blast-specialists to HP consumption, Break, and counters, making it hard to pin down exactly what Gilgamesh's kit may be. We expect him to have synergy with Mortenax Blade, leading us to believe that he may have mechanics tied into the consumption of both his own and his teammate's HP pools.
