A new Star Wars trailer dropped during Game 7 of the World Series, and fans have started to dissect all 45 seconds of footage.
There’s a brief but heartbreaking shot of Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, and a suggestion that the Battle of Crait will be a big, splashy feature of “The Last Jedi.”
But a few seconds toward the end of the trailer have people speculating why Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker and Daisy Ridley’s Rey are fighting. A scruffy Luke spits out, “This is not going to go the way you think,” in a moment that was actually shown in an earlier trailer. But we now see that the target of his statement is a furious and rain-soaked Rey, who raises her lightsaber in response.
Fans have already pointed out that the plot point of Rey seeking out training from Luke Skywalker mirrors the latter’s own arc in “Empire Strikes Back.”
Their duel could be the result of a particularly brutal training session, or something more sinister, as Hamill hinted in a tweet.
Whatever the case, we’ll find out in just six weeks. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” opens Dec. 15.
