Wednesday was the closing date for candidates filing to run on the Nov. 4 ballot in races in which no incumbent sought re-election.
The November election, which includes a runoff for Fresno mayor between Henry T. Perea and Ashley Swearengin, and the presidential election, will determine who will serve on school boards, city councils and other offices.
Some of the races without incumbents include:
*Clovis Unified, Area 5 -- Incumbent Richard Lake, who has served for 16 years, did not seek re-election. Scott Troescher was the only candidate to file.
*Clovis Unified, Area 7 -- Incumbent Susan Walker, who was first elected in 1991, did not file paperwork to seek another term. That leaves Christopher Casado as the only candidate.
*Hanford City Council, District B -- No one filed during the extension period, but four candidates filed papers last week with the Hanford City Clerk's office. They are Robin Mattos, 48, a consultant; John Murrisky, 61, a registered nurse; Jon-Michael Hice, 31, a community specialist for First 5 Kings County; and Sue Sorensen, 55, a business owner and hygienist.
Incumbent Marcie Buford, first elected in 1988, did not seek re-election.
In the Central Unified School District, Area 6 incumbent Terry Cox will face challengers Bradley S. Black, Oscar L. Robinson and April Henry. Cox filed candidate papers Friday, but they weren't processed until Monday, a Fresno County elections office said. Her name was omitted from a story about candidate filings published on B2 of Saturday's Local & State section.
