Fresno City Council Member Cynthia Sterling on Monday announced her candidacy for the county supervisor seat held by Phil Larson.
Larson said in February he is running for re-election when his term is up next year.
Sterling made the announcement next to the closed county courthouse in Kerman. She said the location was to highlight a point of her campaign: that the county is cutting too many services.
She said she will focus on water issues and restoring social services if elected in District 1, a largely rural area in western Fresno County. She said she would work with department heads to keep critical services.
Sterling has served on the City Council for seven years.
