Family members provide approximately 80% of the care for the elderly. According to the National Long Term Care Survey, about 11%, or 3.7 million of older Medicare enrollees, receive personal care from a paid or unpaid source.

More often than not, there is one primary caregiver and usually it is an adult daughter or spouse. Because women are marrying and having children later, oftentimes the caregiver is caring for children and parents at the same time. Add to the load holding down a job, and every day can become a juggling game.

Simply stated, our elderly cannot do this alone and neither can their caregivers. Helping out can take a toll on caregivers physically, mentally and financially.

Here’s a list of service providers who can help.
