Enter the Warzone, light reading for light-headed readers.

Fresno Grizzlies fans (at least those who still bother showing up to games) are squirming and twitching nervously as the first-place Sacramento River Cats hit town for a three-game series beginning Monday.

And for good reason. In 2007, the last time the Grizzlies were in contention, Sacramento swept a five-game series at Chukchansi Park.

Another not-so-fun fact: Since Sacramento joined the Pacific Coast League in 2000, the Grizzlies have never finished ahead of the River Cats in the standings.

But if the San Francisco Giants keep hitters such as John Bowker, Jesus Guzman and Kevin Frandsen at Triple-A while the Oakland A's continue to promote young arms such as Vin Mazzaro and Josh Outman, this year could be different.

Todd Linden, mentioned in this space last week, is done (for now) feasting on Triple-A pitching after agreeing to a contract with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles.

Sayonara, Todd.

Visalia's Kyle Smith must have been singularly proud Wednesday when the Cleveland Indians selected the Cal Poly shortstop in the 14th round of baseball's amateur draft.

Except the Indians then drafted another Kyle Smith, a pitcher from Kent State, in the 20th round. Hope they're not roommates. That could get pretty confusing.

Other drafted names of note include: Diego Seastrunk, Tobias Streich, Damien Magnifico, Naoya Washiya, Reynolds Parthemore, Seth Schwindenhammer, Rock Bando and (drumroll please ...) Seqouyah Stonecipher.

After how the Orlando Magic wilted in the final minutes of Game 4 -- no way Derek Fisher should've been left that wide open -- we're fairly certain the NBA Finals won't be headed back to Los Angeles for Game 6.

Whoever said NBA coaches don't make much of a difference never spent much time watching Stan Van Gundy.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Seattle Seahawks coach Jim Mora are joining mountaineer Ed Viesturs on a July ascent of Mount Rainier, the most heavily glaciered peak in the Lower 48.

We suggest they bring along Adam "Pacman" Jones -- and "forget" to tell him about crevasses.

Six years later, former Oakland Raiders center Barret Robbins is taking responsibility for his bizarre behavior in the days leading up to Super Bowl XXXVII.

Don't feel too badly about it, Barret. Al Davis has been behaving that way for years.

For no particular reason: Reinhold Messner.

Selena Roberts' tell-all about Alex Rodriguez has sold only 16,000 copies out of its 150,000 first printing, slipping to No. 1,987 on Amazon.com's sales rankings.

That includes the 10,000 copies Madonna bought for her personal collection.

Barring an appeal, Alabama's football team will be forced to vacate 21 victories from 2005-07 for improper use of textbooks.

We're just surprised those books got any use at all.
