Taylor Swift tickets sell out in minutes

Taylor Swift did something last week that only a few music stars have done here in Fresno: She sold out the Save Mart Center the day tickets went on sale.
Yes, if you waited to buy tickets to her April 10 concert, you're out of luck.
Only a handful of artists have sold out on the first day tickets were available. The Save Mart Center doesn't keep records of such things, but in-the-know minds remember The Rolling Stones, Madonna (the first of her two shows), Britney Spears and Hannah Montana selling out the first day.
The first time Tim McGraw and Faith Hill came to the Save Mart Center, in 2006, they sold out in one day too -- but there were two of them.
But Swift did something only beaten by Britney Spears. Something even The Rolling Stones didn't do. She sold out Fresno's arena in mere minutes.
"I think it was 10 minutes or less," says Steve Tadlock, regional general manager for SMG, which manages the Save Mart Center.
Consider it a testament to two things:
1. Taylor Swift has definitely become America's darling of the moment.
2. Taylor Swift has been Fresno's sweetheart for a while now.
True story: Back before Taylor Swift was a star, when she was just trying to break into the country music world, she walked into Cali's Custard Shop (then on Blackstone Avenue) after a radio appearance and played an impromptu concert.
After a 2007 show at Warnors Theatre, she tirelessly signed autographs for all her fans.
Seems like Fresno fans remembered that stuff this time around.
All that aside, though, Swift is in a different stratosphere these days -- even beyond when she was here opening for Rascal Flatts last year.
This week, she claimed a piece of music history when her self-titled debut album spent its 157th week on the Billboard Top 200, making it the longest-charting album of the century.
Meanwhile, her second album, "Fearless" has been on the chart for 50 weeks and currently sits at No. 7.
Not bad for a girl who turns 20 next month, eh?
This weekend, she's pulling double-duty on "Saturday Night Live," as both the host and musical guest. Only a few artists -- Justin Timberlake, Sting and Janet Jackson among them -- have done that.
Did you notice we made it this far without even having to mention Kanye West? It goes to show that Taylor Swift is much more than the girl who got interrupted at the MTV Video Music Awards by an egomaniac rapper.
She's a superstar.
