Each week, In a Fix takes a look at annoying and sometimes dangerous problems in the central San Joaquin Valley and reports on who is responsible for getting the problems fixed.

What needs to be fixed

Standing water and low-hanging tree limbs on East Sierra Madre Avenue between North Fisher and North Fourth streets

Wayne Flynn sent an e-mail to The Bee regarding a problem he says he's noticed for about four months.

"It has turned green and brackish from daily watering," he says. "Also, tree limbs are so low and overhanging to make a dangerous situation to cars, buses and emergency equipment up and down the street."

One of the worst areas of standing water is at the corner of Sierra Madre and Fisher, where it measures several inches deep and extends from the curb several feet into the street. There is standing water in the gutters on both sides of Sierra Madre between Fisher and Fourth.

Public Works Manager Brian Russell says there is widespread tree damage to sidewalks and gutters in the area, and the location has been placed on a list of future projects; however, funding has not been allocated, and there is no time frame for repairs.

Who's responsible: Patrick Wiemiller, Public Works director, (559) 621-8650.
