Each week, In a Fix takes a look at annoying and sometimes dangerous problems in the central San Joaquin Valley and reports on who is responsible for getting the problems fixed.

What needs to be fixed

Rough roads in Calwa neighborhood

Tomas Nuño sent an e-mail to The Bee regarding disintegrating roads in an area bounded by East Church, East Kaviland, South Cedar and South Holloway avenues.

"The streets in the neighborhood are in very bad shape," he says. "[There are] potholes and cracks all over the roads. It is in the worst shape that I have ever seen it in. It looks like the neighborhood has been forgotten."

With the exception of the west side of Cedar, which is part of Fresno County, the area belongs to the city of Fresno. Many of the streets are mazes of cracks, ridges, patches and potholes.

Public Works Manager Brian Russell says there are no plans for a resurfacing project at this time. However, the area is being considered for a future project as funding allows; in the meantime, potholes will be repaired as needed.

Who's responsible: Patrick Wiemiller, public works director, (559) 621-8650.
