What needs to be fixed

Install left-turn signals at North Cedar and East Teague avenues

Lori Schuman, who walks and jogs in this area, sent an e-mail to The Bee complaining that she has been nearly hit by drivers making a left turn from Teague to Cedar Avenue.

"I don't know the reason for this problem at this particular signal, especially when the drivers are looking right at me," Schuman writes. "I wear bright colors, and I proceed by walking only when the pedestrian light is on."

Schuman says she also is concerned because there are several schools in the area.

Bryan Jones, traffic engineering manager with Fresno's Public Works Department, says the intersection has been studied to determine whether left-turn signal lights are needed. The intersection did not meet established criteria for traffic and pedestrian volume as well as number of accidents, he says.

Who's responsible: Patrick Wiemiller, Public Works director, (559) 621-8650.
