Each week, In a Fix takes a look at annoying and sometimes dangerous problems in the central San Joaquin Valley and reports on who is responsible for getting the problems fixed.
What needs to be fixed
Replace the four-way stop sign at the intersection of North Fowler and East Belmont avenues with a signal light
Lori Miller sent an e-mail to The Bee regarding the need for a signal light at this intersection.
"Just wondering whose bright idea it was to put a stoplight at Belmont and Academy and not one at Fowler and Belmont," Miller writes. " cannot for the life of me figure why they'd put a light where there isn't that much traffic and leave a nightmare stop-sign system for one of the busiest [intersections] around."
The traffic during morning and evening rush hours is particularly bad, Miller says.
The intersection is maintained by both the city and county. Bryan Jones, traffic engineering manager with Fresno's Public Works Department, says a traffic signal will be added as building progresses on the nearby Fancher Creek community, which will include housing and retail, industrial and office space. A date has not been determined.
Who's responsible: Bob Palacios with the Fresno County Department of Public Works, (559) 262-4240.; Patrick Wiemiller, Fresno's Public Works director, (559) 621-8650.
