Belana, a restaurant and nightclub at northwest Fresno's Fig Garden Village shopping center, closed Monday.

The closure was confirmed Thursday by Audrey Yokota-Lew, marketing director for Donahue Schriber, the company that operates the center. Phone service to the restaurant was disconnected and there was no activity inside Thursday.

Belana opened less than two years ago as a sister restaurant to the upscale Slates, but had been struggling in the Valley's flailing economy. Fresno businessman Krikor "Kirk" Vartanian bought a partial ownership stake after its owners filed for bankruptcy last year.
