Turning kids on to the cello

My faithful classical-music-in-schools-zealot correspondent, Robert Bullwinkel, dropped me a note today about cellist Zuill Bailey, the guest soloist for this weekend's Fresno Philharmonic concerts -- I have a story in this morning's 7 section about the program -- and...Read more →

Jury's in on '12 Angry Men'

Not that I'd ever want to disparage the personal hygiene of the hardworking cast members in Theatre Ventoux's "12 Angry Men," but thanks to director Lisa Taber's intimate staging and the play's evocative description of the cramped and heated quarters in this theater classic, I felt as if I was close enough to smell each and every one.

"Tchaikovsky Discovers America" is a collaboration with Classical Kids Live!, the theatrical orchestral group that brought the popular "Beethoven Lives Upstairs" to Fresno last year. Read more →

Historic home tour illuminates Fresno's architectural variety

If you know where to look, evidence of Fresno's history is as big as a house. That's been the driving force behind Fresno Historical Society's annual tour of homes and neighborhoods over the past 30 years.

Five homes on Huntington Boulevard will be featured in this year's tour, which is Friday and Saturday. Read more →
