Going the distance: More women are taking on the challenge of ultraevents

Women's Adventure Magazine

In the spring of 2003, Bree Wee decided to run to the beach to check the surf. Her home was two miles from Kona's nearest breaks and she couldn't make it to the water without stopping to rest. She set a goal to run the four round-trip miles without stopping and, with the support of friends, she completed her first marathon later that year. Six years and thousands of training hours later, 27-year-old Bree has a new career - she's a professional triathlete - and a new goal: finishing this year's Ironman World Championship in under nine hours and 26 minutes. That's less time than it took to deliver her son three years ago.

travelgirl recommends: She's a musical wonder; party in DC

travelgirl

It seems we're all trying to be Wonder Woman - at the very least, we'd love to own her invisible plane! Meanwhile, "Wonder Woman" actress Lynda Carter has transformed herself back into a role that's dear to her heart: vocalist. Tall, fashionable and pretty, the 57-year-old Carter recently launched an impressive new album entitled "At Last." Enriched with the evocative sounds of jazz, blues and a bit of country, it's a soulful series of recognizable songs that Carter makes her own with a superb blend of creativity and flair. From an expressive rendition of "You Send Me" to a beautifully crafted "Cry Me A River" this album is pure vocal delight, and well worth the $13.99 price tag. It's nice to see Carter return to the spotlight, having taken time out to raise her two kids, one in college, the other a high school senior. Putting her singing career on hold, she made her mark in the '70s starring as the Amazon princess "Wonder Woman" airing weekly on network television. Armed with the femininity and super-hero strength of her comic book predecessor, Lynda Carter embodied an icon of pop culture that's still popular; she was the "it" girl attired in red, white and blue glam. Back in fine form, this ardent travelgirl says her favorite destination is wherever she's traveling next. If you happened to hear her impressive singing voice during the fall 2005 run of "Chicago" in London's West End (she played Mama Morton), this album will be no surprise. Pick up this latest "super power"-ful collection of memorable songs.

3 big budget busters

http://www.freeshipping.org/blog/

It happened two years in a row before my husband and I wised up. We had moved out of a condo, where we forked out a $350 monthly HOA (homeowner's association fee), into a home, where the fee is $350 for the entire year. And every August, when that annual fee was due, we were left scrambling to come up with the money. How did we go from paying this expense each month to getting blindsided by the same amount just once a year? We had failed to budget for this annual expense.
