In the fifth round, Gerbe deked to the backhand and lifted it high over Kari Lehtonen. Michael Ryder then missed the net to the right with his shot to give Buffalo the win. Derek Roy and Thomas Vanek both scored for the Sabres, who have won five of their past six games. Ryan Miller made 24 stops in the win. Ryder and Tomas Vincour each had a goal for the Stars, who have dropped two of three. Lehtonen made 30 stops in the loss.
