California star running back Jahvid Best was released from the hospital Sunday after leaving the team's game Saturday on a stretcher.

In the second quarter of the 31-14 setback to Oregon State, Best took a handoff around the left end and leaped into the end zone on a seven-yard score. While in the air, he was hit and landed on his back, while his helmet was knocked off as he hit the ground.

Best was immobilized, lifted onto a gurney and taken to Highland General Hospital, where the early diagnosis was a concussion with full movement in all his limbs.

CT scans and X-rays came back normal, and Best remained in the hospital overnight for observation before being released.

"I'm very thankful that it turned out as well as it did, because it was a very dangerous situation, a very dangerous fall," Cal head coach Jeff Tedford said. "He really landed awkwardly from very high in the air."

Best will not play this Saturday against Arizona, and he will continue to be evaluated for future contests.

In nine games this season, the junior has 867 yards and 12 touchdowns on 141 carries.
