Recap: Nevada vs. Hawaii

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran for two more, as the Nevada Wolf Pack downed the Hawaii Warriors, 31-21, in Western Athletic Conference action at Mackay Stadium in Reno

Kaepernick threw for 184 yards and rushed for 114 yards, as Nevada (5-3, 4-0 WAC) stretched its winning streak to five games. Vai Taua ran for a team-high 127 yards on 19 carries and he also caught a 30-yard touchdown pass.

Despite being intercepted twice, Bryant Moniz had a solid game for Hawaii (2-6, 0-5), throwing for 374 yards and three touchdowns. Jovonte Taylor enjoyed a career day with six receptions for 109 yards and two touchdowns, but Hawaii still lost its sixth games in a row.

Hawaii jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game, as Moniz threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Kealoha Pilares and a 71-yard strike to Taylor.

Nevada responded late in the frame, when Kaepernick scored on a two-yard run. The Wolf Pack continued to trail until Taua caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Kaepernick with just two minutes left in the half. The Wolf Pack struck again moments later, as Kaepernick scurried 38 yards to paydirt with 31 seconds remaining, giving Nevada a 21-14 lead at the intermission.

The Wolf Pack added to its lead late in the third quarter with a 40-yard scoring strike from Kaepernick to Tray Session.

Hawaii refused to go away, however, and made it a one-score game with a four- yard touchdown pass from Moniz to Taylor with just over six minutes left in regulation.

Nevada, however, put the game away with 1:18 left, as Ricky Drake booted a 27- yard field goal.

The Wolf Pack amassed 312 yards on the ground, while holding the Warriors to just 118 rushing yards.
