A teenager confessed Wednesday to causing a bomb scare at Yosemite High School, the Madera County Sheriff's Department reported.

Deputies canvassed the campus about 7 p.m. after a note said a bomb was on a bus that belonged to a Yosemite High rival, sheriff's spokesman Erica Stuart said. The rival school was playing Yosemite in water polo, Stuart said.

After a short investigation, deputies confronted the teen who wrote the note. The teen admitted doing it as a prank, Stuart said.

"It was a stupid, idiotic shenanigan, and a monumental waste of taxpayers' money," Stuart said. The teen was not identified.
