Budget-driven furloughs begin Monday at Fresno State, with administrative offices shut down as part of a plan to close a $16.3 million shortfall in state money.
Most employees in the California State University system will take off 24 days without pay this year. It's part of the CSU plan to manage a $564 million deficit that also includes enrollment cuts, higher student fees and other reductions.
At Fresno State, administrative offices will close the next two Mondays -- Aug. 3 and 10. Instructional activities will continue on campus; limited janitorial services will be provided.
The university's courtyard, dining hall, Gibson Farm Market and child care centers will remain open those Mondays.
The library will be closed.
University police officers are exempt from furloughs.
Faculty members will work with campus administrators on furloughs to ensure minimal disruption to student class schedules.
Furlough calendars for the athletic department and Athletic Corporation have not yet been set.
