Thieves broke into a storage container holding fireworks for a booth being used to raise money for Clark Intermediate School's water polo and swimming programs and took about $4,000 in fireworks and other items.

The fireworks were placed in a storage container alongside the booth near Clovis and Dakota avenues shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, said Matt Berry, a Clark teacher and coach.

The burglary was discovered Wednesday morning when Berry arrived at the booth. Not only were fireworks stolen, but fans, extension cords. chairs and ice chests, too, he said.

The booth was back in business Wednesday afternoon, but Berry said they now have to recoup their losses and try to break even.

Beginning tonight, the fireworks will be moved to another location, he said.

Greg Barnes, an account manager with Phantom Fireworks, said it has been a couple of years since a booth was burglarized. He said his company will make its Fresno warehouse available to the group.
