Why do you write? To advocate for students, parents and teachers who have little defense against what is happening to them in the name of education.

Topic that doesn't get enough attention: Abuse of students and teachers who are oppressed by the high-stakes testing mindset within our schools.

Excerpt from recent letter: "Students only go through school once. Permit educators to teach reading using current best practices, in accord with professional teaching standards. Students deserve no less."

Reaction to letters: Generally, very supportive.

Education: Bachelor's in physics/mathematics; credentialed K-14 teacher.

Political philosophy: Social conservative and fiscal liberal. I do not vote along party lines, but rather for the person whose values align most closely to mine.
