Age: 57

Home: Fresno

Occupation: Professor of management information systems at the Sid Craig School of Business at Fresno State.

Hobbies: Playing the piano and composing music.

Bee reader since: 1985.

How many letters: 12 since 2001; five Valley Voices commentaries.

Favorite topics: Social, political, religious, educational and philosophical issues.

Why do you write? I write when, inspired by my Muse, I cannot not write. I also write because of the flaws I perceive in media reporting and analysis. If the media did their job perfectly, The Bee would probably have to drop its Letters section.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in physics, Master's Degree in mathematics, Ph.D. in systems sciences from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Family: Wife, Amy; two children: Keyvan and Sherzad; one dog: Bacchus.

Political philosophy: Work hard, think hard, expect much, both from yourself and others; be compassionate, responsible and avoid excuses; learn from mistakes.
