Age: 68

Occupation: Retired regional sales manager for an international consumer goods company. Full-time caregiver for my disabled wife.

Hobbies: Golf, gardening and reading -- mostly history.

Bee reader since: 1994 -- when we retired and returned to the Valley to be near family.

How many letters: 15 since 2005.

Favorite topics: Education statistics on dropouts, enrollment projections and funding priorities.

Why do you write? To present hard numbers that refute politically driven misstatements about the state of education.

Education: Bachelor's degree in marketing from Utah State University in 1963.

Family: Celebrating 47th year of marriage to the prettiest Aggie cheerleader. Proud parents of two successful children.

Political philosophy: Ex-Republican. Fiscally conservative and socially moderate. Leaders of both parties have mortgaged our country's future with programs that we should have the courage to pay for ourselves instead of passing the debt to future generations.
