Age: 51

Occupation: Home improvements salesman at Sears in Visalia.

Hobbies: Reading, writing, politics, mountain biking, working out at a terrific local health club.

Bee reader since: 2000.

How many letters: 23 since 2001.

Favorite topics: Illegal immigration, the lack of parental involvement in children's education, archaic religious practices, preventing animal cruelty, protecting a woman's right to choose.

Why do you write? To oppose those who blame self-inflicted problems on others, and to try to convince certain individuals and groups to join the rest of us in the 21st century.

Education: Associate's degree in English; returning to Fresno State in August to pursue a bachelor's degree in print journalism.

Family: My mother lives in Lemoore; my brother and two sisters live in various parts of the state; I have numerous other relatives in the Valley.

Political philosophy: Conservative, moderate and liberal -- it depends on the subject. Everyone should have to take responsibility for their actions. Far too many people in this country blame politicians for their lot in life when the real culprit is right there in the mirror.
