Dalai Lama says China overpoliticizing his travels
The Dalai Lama, Tibet's spiritual leader, said Saturday that China was overpoliticizing his travels and claimed his decisions on where to go were spiritual in nature, not political.
The Dalai Lama, on a visit to Tokyo, said he believed the Chinese government saw him as a "troublemaker" and had read too much political meaning into his frequent travels abroad.
"The Chinese government considers me a troublemaker, so it is my duty to create more trouble," he quipped. "The Chinese government politicizes too much wherever I go. Where I go is not political."

Where do they stand?
Political correctness gone amok: On March 11, I read in the Local section about a child who was suspended for a day for using a particular phrase. This got me to thinking again on the subject and I'm left wondering: Since when did political correctness trump the First Amendment of the Constitution? And who decided that the First Amendment is null and void?
I was taught in school that freedom of speech was there to protect us so that we may discuss unpopular ideas without fear of government prosecution. But today, we can no longer use certain terms without reprisal.
Maybe this coming election, the First Amendment should be the among the highest topics. When questioning the candidates, we need to ask where they stand on the people's rights to freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly and to petition the government.

Redefining America
For anyone who missed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s quote earlier this week, she redefined a tax increase as a “repeal of a tax decrease.” This is par for the course, as the statists in charge have been redefining America at an astounding pace.
Our president told us he wouldn’t have lobbyists on his staff. His advising team is replete with tax cheats and lobbyists. We were told Afghanistan was the “real” war. Now we watch as politics prevail over the lives of our family members serving overseas.
Hundreds of thousands lose their jobs each month, and the statists talk about how many jobs they’ve saved. Foreclosures abound, and they call it recovery.
Medicare, Social Security, and the Postal Service are rocketing toward bankruptcy, and the statists want to run health insurance. They talk about all the benefits, and all the money we’ll save. Who in their right mind would believe them?
Every time Americans decide to let the government provide for us, we give away a little more of our freedom. If America continues

Hobbies: Music, traveling, history, politics and spending time with family and friends.
Bee reader since: 2002 when I moved back to Fresno.
How many letters: Seven since 2005.
Favorite topics: Government corruption, media bias, hubris, correcting nonsense and other threats to my freedom.
Why do you write? It makes me angry when blatant lies are sold as gospel. Too many people are afraid to challenge these lies in the face of the fascism of political correctness.
Education: Diploma from Washington Union High School, BA in psychology from Fresno State, MS in psychology in progress from California Coast University.
Family: Single.
Political philosophy: Neo-Libertarian. I believe everyone should be free to do whatever they want as long as those things don't infringe on other's freedoms. I believe being free requires personal responsibility. I believe the government's job is to protect my freedom and stay out of my life the rest of the time. I believe that government ensuring equal results ensures a bad result for everyone.
