Stephen Sacks

Age: 57

Occupation: Speech-language pathologist with Fresno Unified School District.

Hobbies: Reading, traveling, watching the Boston Red Sox, working for social justice.

Bee reader since: my family moved to Fresno in 1960.

How many letters: 24 since 1987.

Favorite topics: Various wars and U.S. militarism, social justice, corporate greed and sweat shops, climate change, single-payer health care, computer voting/election stealing and organic food.

Why do you write? Because the power of the wealthy corporate elites, in tandem with our politicians, is destroying this country. You don't hear much in the corporate media that bank bailouts are the greatest transfer of wealth from taxpayers to the rich in history! Despite the myth of the liberal media, it is overwhelmingly controlled by big money for its own interests. I don't see my view expressed very often saying something is horribly wrong and common sense suggests that it should be expressed.

Education: B.S. in psychology from U.C. Berkeley; M.A. from Fresno State in communicative disorders.

Family: Wife of 30 years, Valerie Johnson; daughter, Emily, 23; son, Jacob, 20.

Political philosophy: Like Jesus, Gandhi and Martin Luther King espoused, love is the answer to the problems in the world. That means treating people and the environment with respect, living life non-violently and working for liberty and justice.
