Age: 51

Occupation: Freelance writer, fitness/yoga instructor, making and selling various crafts. My main job is caring for my son, who has cerebral palsy.

Hobbies: Ballet, reading, writing, my collection of turtles, gardening, BMX riding.

Bee reader since: 1981.

How many letters: 25 since 1994.

Favorite topics: Animal issues, the handicapped, government waste, littering, the environment, people who exhibit grossly bad behavior in public.

Why do you write? When something bothers me, I feel compelled to write. It's cathartic for me. I also like to write to share exceptionally good experiences.

Excerpt from recent letter: "In regard to Michael Birdsong's letter (Sept. 23) on the subject of cage-fighting and BMX racing at Woodward Park: Equating BMX racing with cage fighting is laughably ridiculous.

"How can one compare riding/racing bicycles on a track with, to use Mr. Birdsong's own words, 'hordes of grown men and women chanting, cheering and drooling while watching two other human beings beat the wham out of each other'?"

Topics that don't get enough attention: How the government gives billions of taxpayer dollars to other countries when it has not met the needs of its own citizens; the staggering amount of taxpayer money paid to people who are defrauding the Social Security, disability and welfare systems.

Education: High school graduate, two years of junior college.

Family: Married to Frank Jr. for 17 years; son, Frankie III, 16; daughter, Dominique, 11; five dogs, seven cats.

Political philosophy: I'm not sure I have a political philosophy. Politics is one big dog and pony show. I'm a registered Democrat, but I tell people I'm either a conservative Democrat or a liberal Republican. I vote based on my conscience and what I believe to be right, not how my party of registration says I should.
