Consider community college

On June 9, 2007, I wrote a commentary that was published in Valley Voices entitled "Why bright students go to city college," in which I explained the multiple advantages of attending a community college prior to transferring to a university.

As a community college graduate and a long-time faculty member (25-plus years) at Fresno City College, I have experienced and seen the value of a community college education for most students.

Now my 22-year-old son, who spent two years at Fresno City College before transferring to UC Santa Barbara, has been accepted into a Ph.D. program at UC Riverside with a fellowship worth more than $128,000.

The moral of this letter is simple: Community college education works!
