'Favorite radio station'
It was dreadful news that KFPT, AM 790, has been sold and will no longer be a liberal talk radio show. That is my favorite radio station and I listen to it often throughout the day.
The talk show hosts accept calls with varying viewpoints and they are not afraid to air them, unlike the bombastic right-wing talk shows.
I hope there will be a similar radio station that will be broadcast in the Fresno area. I'm sure there are many Democrats and independents who enjoy listening to talk radio that is intelligent, informed and compassionate.

ESCAPING SMOG: The Julin family
Background: Dale Julin, 51, a television anchor and radio talk-show host in Fresno, hosted five half-hour news specials about clean air on KSEE Channel 24 and discussed the topic frequently on his radio programs. His wife, Patti, 48, was a college music teacher.
Why they left: Dale said it took the couple less than two hours to decide to leave the Valley after a doctor told them their 11-year-old daughter, Mara, had exercise-induced asthma and her condition would likely worsen if she continued breathing bad air.
Now: They moved to Santa Cruz in 2006. Dale hosts a radio show; Patti teaches music. Mara's asthma hasn't disappeared, but she said she feels better. "I can jog a mile without using my inhaler."

'One of the best'
When we moved to this fine city nine years ago, there was almost nothing we missed about Southern California. Our only real disappointment was: no Garrison Keillor. Now, to our surprise and pleasure, his show will be heard here!
"A Prairie Home Companion" has to be one of the best radio programs of all time. It starts today on KFSR 90.7 at 5 p.m. and will be repeated Sunday at noon, with a similar schedule each weekend.
Thanks to Fresno State's radio station for making our San Joaquin Valley life complete.

Google misdirected calls at Fresno State
A glitch in Google has misdirected some calls meant for the Fresno State operator to the campus radio station instead, university officials said Monday.
The correct telephone number for the main campus operator at California State University, Fresno, is (559) 278-4240.
But officials said the Internet search site Google offered a different number -- one that connects with KFSR (FM 90.7), the noncommercial campus radio station.
