As a black person, born in the south, in the 1940s, I thought my people were the recipients of some of the cruelest actions bestowed on humans by other humans.

After watching and hearing how the media and non-fans of American Idol contestant Sanjaya Malakar have vilified this young man, I've realized how cruel people still are.

He may not be the best singer, but why be so cruel? I feel so sorry for this young man. He's just 17.

So, to Sanjaya, on the behalf of the cruel people, I am so sorry. From the bottom of my heart, I'm so sorry. Be strong, Sanjaya, and follow your dreams.
