The topic of nuclear energy, even in our own back yard, is controversial enough without introducing slick advertising into the scene. The large ad presented in The Bee's Local State section Feb. 16 promoted a lecture titled "Searching for a Sustainable Energy Future" by Patrick Moore, Ph.D., a co-founder of Greenpeace.
After further research, it can be noted that Patrick Moore has since disassociated himself with Greenpeace and is currently promoting nuclear energy, clearly a position quite different from the Greenpeace organization itself. Additionally, even his claim to be a Greenpeace co-founder is controversial.
This advertising style is not a positive reflection on the lecture's sponsors, which included the Fresno Nuclear Energy Group; California State University, Fresno; K-Jewel; Pipe Trades Council; and the Fresno Area Construction Trades.
