A letter written about the mural in the Tower District Oct. 29 found it to be not offensive or out of the ordinary “for this area.” Obviously the writer traveled to “this area” from somewhere, so she would not have to view the mural on a daily basis.

I have family and friends who have lived on Wilson Street for more than 30 years. They have supported various Tower District activities in the past and continue to do so. They, unlike the writer, must see this painting every day. There is one difference however; this is my family’s home. The store who had this mural painted gave no thought to the neighborhood they wish to serve — too bad.

This being America, the mural will probably stay. Those who fight for its existence will go home to their “own areas,” mural-less as they are. Our family will demonstrate the old-fashioned American way, and not patronize this store.
