The Fashion Fair shopping center sponsored a trick or treat session for children from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Halloween. I arrived at the mall at 3:30 p.m. To my disappointment, 90% of the stores had posted a sign at their entrance: Sorry, we have no more treats. Happy Halloween!

My disappointment grew as I sat and observed the parents and kids walking aimlessly around, the bewildered faces of the children wondering why their little pumpkin containers were not being filled with candy.

It was clear to me that many of the costumes took a lot of time and effort to put together. It’s a shame that the mall merchants did not bother to provide a reasonable amount of penny candy to put a smile on these children’s faces.

I went home and created a sign for the those vendors at Fashion Fair: Sorry, I won’t be shopping here this holiday season. Merry Christmas!
