In response to the Oct. 18 article regarding the revitalization of El Dorado Park, one has to wonder when the onus for monetary support would not sit squarely on the shoulders of the city.
Residents complain of roaches and rats; would that not be the responsibility of the property owner? How will landscaping help to reduce feral cats? How did it become the city’s burden to provide front-facing windows for residents?
While I agree that our SPCA can address the collection of the feral cats and law enforcement personnel can patrol the neighborhood more frequently, the city cannot continue to be financially responsible for many of these issues. Perhaps the city’s primary responsibility should be the implementation and enforcement of laws that will require housing standards be met.
Residents, and landlords alike, need to begin taking responsibility and ownership for turning around the cleanliness and conditions that exist in the El Dorado Park neighborhood.
