We recently had an Oxford debate at my high school about the military’s “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Policy” and it got me thinking. In response to the thought that gays will gain more rights by being with their spouses is a little bit ridiculous.
I would think that the government would make it so that partners wouldn’t be stationed together. I think everyone should have that much faith in our government and President Barack Obama.
Secondly, people who say this will mess up the cohesion of the military are misguided. I might be mistaken but weren’t blacks in the same position gays are now back in the two World Wars? I’m sure blacks weren’t welcome to the Army, but it had to happen sometime and eventually the mixed races of the Army were accepted.
A person’s sexual orientation should have nothing to do with their love and devotion to our country.
