In a desperate attempt to excuse our political leaders and their actions, Gary Walker, in his Oct. 24 Valley Voices commentary, stoops to a well-known liberal tactic — the distortion of terms.
In a liberal world, the confusion of terms is good! We may never know whether Orwell predicted modern Democrats, or Democrats just use “1984” and “Animal Farm” as training manuals.
Walker says, “Fascism and socialism are mutually exclusive.” I don’t see all that much difference.
Socialism relates to state ownership and the power to control the means of production and the ability of a coercive government to ration resources and distribution.
The German equivalent, Nazism, is short for National Socialism, a bit of knowledge that seemingly has escaped the liberal mindset.
Fascism is a totalitarian philosophy of government that advocates and practices state control over every aspect of national life, including private enterprise while repressing all opposition.
Sure sounds like the Democrat Socialist Workers Party to me! Or maybe it’s just as simple as what Ayn Rand said: “Beware of the man who speaks of sacrifice, for he speaks of slaves and masters. And he intends to be the master.”
