I’d like to introduce you to Max. Max is a loving, sweet 8-year-old. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. Max has endured more than I can imagine. He was diagnosed with Fragile X syndrome at 13 months and autism at 6 years old.
Max has been receiving therapy services since he was 10 months old. He has some form of therapy every day. He thinks all the therapists are his friends and has a blast “playing” with them.
He is making a name for himself in the Ranchos Youth Football league. His older brother plays football in RYF, and his cousin cheers for the team. Lately, Max has taken to standing near his cousin while she’s cheering. He watched, he waited, and he started participating. Sometimes he mimics the moves, occasionally he yells something, in front of hundreds of people — all on his own.
When Max’s sideline activities were brought to the attention of the board, instead of shunning him, the board embraced Max. Max is now the official mascot of the RYF league. He even has shirts and shorts that match the team.
Thank you RYF board for recognizing a good thing and embracing him.
