While the president of the United States seems to be moving to bring the country into a more peaceful coexistence with other countries, and senators like John McCain move to have the president grant a posthumous pardon for Jack Johnson, the black heavyweight boxing champion who was imprisoned because of romantic ties with a white woman, some Americans seem to insist upon being just nasty.
Nasty is the way some might describe the incident in Louisiana where a white justice of the peace would not marry an interracial couple.
Why would the president seek to have a more peaceful coexistence with other nations on behalf of the American people? It wasn't us.
Why should Sen. McCain seek to have a posthumous pardon for Jack Johnson? Wasn't us.
Why would California schools grant diplomas/degrees to Japanese Americans who were put into internment camps? Wasn't us.
Manufacture history to look good. That works for awhile. Should there be any wonder African-Americans will support Sen. McCain? Should there be any wonder some African-Americans would rather live someplace else -- with fewer "just nasty" people around?
