Award-winning journalist Dahr Jamail was in Fresno on Oct. 16 talking about his new book documenting resistance by U.S. soldiers in the military to the U.S. occupation of Iraq. Jamail spent years in Iraq as an unimbedded U.S. journalist and shared findings that never seem to make it into the mainstream corporate media. Among them:

18 suicides a day by military/discharged military personnel; 50% of U.S. women soldiers being raped or sexually assaulted by U.S. male soldiers; V.A. care for our returning veterans with post traumatic stress disorder being totally inadequate; Story after story about how mistreatment of the Iraqi civilian population and the continued occupation are breeding hatred, making all Americans less safe.

The $3 trillion cost of the war in Iraq is doing severe damage to our economy and our soldiers, both physically and mentally. If the facts were reported, people in the U.S. would not go along with this continuing occupation.

But that would not be in the best financial interest of our military-industrial complex and their cohorts in the corporate media. Listen to Jamail’s presentation from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 28 on KFCF 88.1.
