Farmers who choose to farm on the west side of the San Joaquin Valley choose to gamble on a naturally arid desert area that now has a water shortage.
Rather than securing water either in their farmland area or developing plants to supply their farming needs, they gambled that the Delta water and northern California river water would always flow to them.
This problem has developed from bad business decisions — crazy liberal environmentalists have had nothing to do with the farmers’ business decisions.
