Going through some old papers, I came across a letter my father wrote to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune which was published on March 26, 1994. He was 84 years old and survived to age 96, although he suffered an aortic dissection in his late 80s and had an aortic graft and five coronary artery bypasses, spending 10 days in intensive care, three weeks in the hospital and six weeks in a convalescent hospital. Canadian Medicare paid the entire bill, no co-pays or deductibles. Reading his letter, I realize that nothing has changed.

As we said in Canada, “Plus ça change (plus c’est la même chose)”: The more things change, the more they stay the same.
