The Fresno Unified School District has done it again, this time, creating a new position. Ruth Quinto is being promoted to deputy superintendent. Her pay is $197,880 currently. In addition, she will get some $40,000 in perks with a promise of lifetime health benefits. She is doing a good job, we are told.

All this at a time when thousands of workers are losing their work, health benefits and more. Thousands of workers, teachers, nurses, construction workers and garbage collectors are doing excellent jobs as well, and at best they might get a pat on the back. These are the taxpayers who pay those fantastic salaries. Superintendent Michael Hanson with $270,000 plus perks, and now Ruth Quinto. We are not told why this new position is needed now.

The public is owed an explanation for this action. We are talking about public money collected for the benefit of our school children, not for enriching the executives of Fresno Unified. I am calling on the Bee to conduct an in-depth study of the practices at Fresno Unified and inform the public. We need to know!
