Re the Ohio man on death row whose execution failed after they couldn’t find a viable vein because of his past extensive drug use [story Sept. 19]: The comments I read in the news are all discussing how “terrible and frightening, cruel and unusual” this two hours was for him. The news stated that the man was mentally traumatized and that his lawyers were attempting to get his sentence reduced to life instead of re-doing his execution.
I am confused. There has been no sincere discussion of how the little girl he raped and murdered must have felt during her hours of victimization.
I say let the little girl’s parents decide on his fate. Leave the governor and lawyers out of it.
I am in favor of the death penalty in cases like this. It seems that we always try to “avoid cruel and unusual punishment” for the guilty, but no sympathy is ever sincerely expressed for the victim.
If only the victim could talk, But alas, they’ve already experienced their own cruel and unusual punishment with no one on their side.
